Happy Square Root Day!
Did you notice that today’s date looks like a math problem? When the day of the month and the month are the square roots of the last two digits of the year it’s a square root day. A California driver education teacher named Ron Gordon coined this day when he wrote down the date 9/9/81 and noticed its special square root feature. These rare occurrences happen only 9 times in a century. The last Square Root Day was March 3, 2009 and the next one will be on May 5, 2025. This day can be celebrated by eating root vegetables cut into squares or a square carrot cake and going square dancing. Those so inclined can practice their square roots or other math activities.
