Christmas shopping season has begun.  What can you do to boost your store’s sales this holiday season?  Of course, we’re going to recommend that you buy wholesale Christmas merchandise from us (We have more wholesale Christmas items this year than ever before), but there are other things you can do as well. 

Start out by looking at your store and imagining you are a shopper getting ready for Christmas.  What are you looking to buy?  If you’re like most people, you have a few very specific needs and a lot of vague ideas.  This makes you especially susceptible to impulse items.  You may go to a discount store looking for Christmas wrapping paper, and as you walk through the store you see Christmas stockings for the kids, clear tape to use when wrapping presents, small inexpensive toys to put in the stockings, an As Seen On TV item to give to your weird uncle who already has everything, a mini LED flashlight for your mom to keep in her car for emergencies, socks and underwear for the kids.

As you can see, getting ready for Christmas doesn’t just mean stocking christmas items.  Retail shoppers are also looking for gifts of all sizes and prices during the holiday season.  If you have a lot of great gift items way in the back of your store, and all of your Christmas decorations and wrapping paper in the front of the store, will your customer make it to the back of the store or not?  Consider creating displays of great gift items and placing them in the front of the store along with your Christmas items.  Christmas shoppers are often in a hurry, but they will grab an impulse item if it is easy to find and it fits their Christmas gift giving needs.

Getting yourself and your employees into the Christmas spirit is very important.  Holiday shoppers can be stressed out and rude, and it is important for a retailer to maintain a friendly, calm demeanor with everyone visiting their store.  As a manager, it’s up to you to communicate this to your employees and keep them motivated enough to make your customers feel welcome.  Customer service is a difficult job to do well, but it makes a huge difference.

Take some time today to look at your store and objectively ask yourself if you’re ready for Christmas shoppers.  You’ll find areas for improvement, and you will be able to improve your store and boost your profits.

You’ll need to replace all of the items you’ve sold this season, and it’s best to get some new merchandise ordered early so it will arrive before the last of the old items has sold.  You still have time, but you should be making a mental list of what you need, or better yet, a written list of items to buy.  This way, when it’s time to order, the process will be quick and easy. 

This is also a great opportunity to add some new variety to your store.  Now that the Christmas items are gone, you can fill that space with closeouts, winter items, or just about anything you think would sell well to people in your area.  Take a look out your door and think about what items your friends and neighbors need and want.  If you do this every day, you’ll come up with some good new ideas, which will result in happy customers and more sales for you.  You could even ask some of your customers what type of items they’d like to see in your store.  There’s a good chance they’ll mention items other customers would also buy if you carried them.

If you look at the next few weeks as an opportunity to expand your offerings and improve your store, good things will happen.  Don’t wait until the last minute and throw together a quick wholesale order.  Take the time to buy the best possible items, and reap the rewards.
